Oliver's Ontario District Project for his Masonic year is the Charles H. Best Diabetes
Centre, with a goal of raising $10,000.00 towards their supplying teaching and emergency
kits to schools in the Durham & Peterborough Pine Ridge Boards for children and youths
with Juvenile Diabetes.
Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre
The Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre promotes positive integration of diabetes
management into the daily life of children, adolescents and young adults and their
families, and are currently serving over 1000 families in the Durham Region.
The Centre received the prestigious Fredrick G. Banting Award in 1990, through the
Centre's founder, Marlene Grass RN, a Diabetes Educator.
The Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre for children and Youth was founded in 1989 as a
"first of its kind" Centre in Canada. It is dedicated to providing young people
and their families with education and support to meet their ongoing Type 1 Insulin
Dependent Diabetes needs.
